While some companies have been criticized for asking breastfeeding moms to ‘take it elsewhere,’ Target just took a big step in the opposite direction.
Someone snapped this shot of a section of the retail giant’s employee handbook, and Moms everywhere are overjoyed.
In case it’s a little too blurry, the image reads:
“Guests may openly breastfeed in our stores or ask where they can go to breastfeed their child. When this happens, remember these points:
- Target’s policy supports breastfeeding in any area of our stores, including our fitting rooms, even if others are waiting
- If you see a guest breastfeeding in our stores, do not approach her
- If she approaches and asks you for a location to breastfeed, offer the fitting room (do not offer the restroom as an option)
If you have any questions, partner with your leader.”
The image was posted to the public page of the Breastfeeding Mama Talk group on Facebook, which praised Target’s position on this issue (which shouldn’t even really be an issue).
“Kudos to Target for their breastfeeding friendly policy. Other businesses should take note. Please share this everywhere especially on the Facebook pages of the businesses known to discriminate against breastfeeding!” the group wrote on Facebook.
The image, which has more than 40,000 likes and over 15,000 shares, evoked hundreds of positive comments from moms who are relieved that there’s at least on place on this planet where they can feed their hungry baby without being harassed or shamed.
