Despite the din and tragedy hurricane season has caused, there is one storm who brought some good relief.
As Hurricane Irma tore through Florida over the weekend, it isolated the many, many who remained behind to brave out the storm. Sunday morning in Miami’s little Haiti neighborhood, one girl determined herself having to deliver her baby alone, with only the help of paramedics who guided her through the process over the phone.
According to the Miami Herald , assistant flame chief Eloy Garcia, followed protocol. Due to the hurricane’s strength, authorities nor paramedics could physically reach the woman but luckily, phone lines were still active.
Garcia said, “She delivered the placenta, also. We built contact with the assistant medical director here. Talked things through.”
Both the city of Miami and Miami-Dade’s police Twitter accounts, tweeted updates on the birth of a healthy baby girl, including a picture of the newborn who survived the inclement weather.
Hurricane Irma not only hung over her birth, it also inspired the baby’s name.
Thanks to the efforts of unbelievable teamwork, Nayiri Storm is here with both a memorable name and great birth story.
